This is a 2-day classroom and simulator based course which provides an introduction to facilitation and debriefing through a series of abstract and clinical tasks as well as group work.

There will be a maximum of 12 delegates. The tasks occur in two small groups debriefing a series of real and pre-recorded scenarios.

 

Aims:

Candidates will be able to start debriefing scenarios and also apply the generic skills learnt in their daily clinical work.

This course introduces some of the basic educational theories underpinning the three part model of description, analysis and application that we use. It also explores the principles of non-technical skills (NTS) and how these are integrated into debriefing.

Attendees:

This course is for clinical staff, doctors and others currently involved in the delivery of healthcare training within South London. This course is suitable for both basic and advanced debriefers.  The course is open only to employees of Health Education South London with a direct role in clinical workforce development.

Please note that although the course is free to attend we do ask that you also debrief at the SaIL Centre on 4 separate occasions over the proceeding 6 months post your course to complete your training as a debriefer – these sessions help you to consolidate your experiences and gain confidence as a debriefer. You will be given same day feedback from experienced faculty as part of this consolidation period.
